It looked great until I tried to peel the masking tape. Why is this so hard? I used an entire can and I ended up having to take it all off. Im gonna get some more tomorrow and try again. Does anyone have any plasti-dip tips or tricks?

Mask on the panels next to it that you don’t want to dip, so that you get a solid strip of overspray (about a half inch. Then you peel that at the end.

I’ve heard it’s a real bitch to mask. Maybe try taking the masking off while it’s still wet?

Besides that, get a big piece of vinyl and just wrap the tailgate instead.

Use a utility knife to gently score/cut around the border before peeling the masking tape. Be careful not to score/cut your paint. Then hold the dip down right at the edge while peeling to make extra sure the dip doesn’t rise with the masking.

Use multiple layers of tape and peel it off between coats

I’d probably recommend taping off close to the area your spraying then put a line of tape right up to where you want to spray, then spray the area and then gently peel the tape away lifting up and away from the sprayed area while it’s still wet as you’ve probably noticed when lifting the tape after it’s dried, the tape will lift some of the area you’ve sprayed.

Just found a little help guide.

Plastidip is the stuff of the devil. I can’t stand the stuff I used it once on a few emblems and I hated it.

Stick to paint. Yes it’s a bit more work and the results are permanent but the end results, IF you do it right, are MUCH MUCH better than plastidip.

Yes. They say to remove it while wet but the lower layers are dry. If you use a razor whilst removing the tape you get a better line. The Stringbean currently has a good bit of plastidip so it’s worked out pretty well

You are supposed to peel the tape off while still wet. If you did that then I do not know how else to help other than more is better than less.

Overspray. Dip is designed to stick together and peel up, which is why its great for temporary stuff. Problem is, it *wants* to peel up, so it will come with the masking tape unless you unmask while it’s still wet. Find a natural break point (hard edge) like the edges of your tailgate, or the edge of a badge of that’s all you’re doing, and then mask leaving a half inch gap. Spray all the way to masking, then peel the excess to the hard edge when the dip is set and you unmask.

If you don’t want it to be temporary, just use paint.

Why didn’t you just take the whole tailgate off and lay it flat?
